Burnet powerlifters finish in top 4 at own invitational meet

The Burnet High School powerlifting teams finished in the top four in the boys and girls divisions at their annual invitational Jan. 12 that drew nine teams and 174 lifters.

The Bulldogs placed second overall in the team standings, while the Lady Dawgs were fourth.

“We had multiple athletes place in the top five of their weight class and earning team points and medals,” head coach Tyler McIntosh said. “Coach Couch and I are super proud of how our athletes conducted themselves and how they competed.”

Four boys won individual gold medals. They are Sammy Jones who squatted 320 pounds, lifted 205 pounds on the bench press, and deadlifted 295 pounds for a total of 820 pounds; Jose Rodriguez, who squatted 425 pounds, lifted 230 pounds on the bench press, and deadlifted 430 pounds for a total of 1,085; Brady Rygaard, who squatted 415 pounds, lifted a total of 300 pounds in the bench press, and deadlifted 465 pounds for a total of 1,180; and Brandon Westbrook, who squated 435 pounds, lifted a total of 255 pounds at the bench press, and deadlifted a total of 400 pounds for a total of 1,190 pounds.

John Charron and Adler Goehring each bronze medals. Charron squatted 330 pounds, lifted 255 pounds on the bench press, and deadlifted 350 pounds for a total of 935 pounds. Goehring squatted 395 pounds, lifted 165 pounds on the bench press, and deadlifted 340 pounds for a total of 800 pounds.

Luke Hudgins was fifth thanks to a squat of 410 pounds, a bench press of 285 pounds, and a deadlift of 500 pounds for a total weight of 1,195 pounds.

Aeden Harrison finished sixth with a squat of 350 pounds, a bench press of 215 pounds, and a deadlift of 340 pounds for a total weight of 905 pounds.

Braeden McKenzie was ninth with a squat of 325 pounds, a 215-pound bench press, and a deadlift of 300 pounds for a total weight of 840 pounds.

Johnathan Ryder came in 12th with a squat of 360 pounds, a 205-pound bench press, and a deadlift of 375 pounds for a total weight of 940 pounds.

Colt Johnson finished 13th thanks to a squat of 345 pounds, a 195-pound bench press, and a deadlift of 345 pounds for a total weight of 885 pounds.

Abby Smith was the lone gold medalist for the Lady Dawgs with a squat of 255 pounds, a 150-pound bench press, and a deadlift of 260 pounds for a total weight of 665 pounds.

Maddie Moise earned silver thanks to a squat of 215 pounds, a 150-pound bench press, and a deadlift of 300 pounds for a total of 665 pounds.

Maddie Cardenas took home a bronze thanks to squatting 225 pounds, lifting a bench press of 135 pounds, and a deadlift of 245 pounds for a total of 605 pounds.

Three lifters finished fifth in their weight divisions. They are Hailee Beltran with a squat of 165 pounds, a 105-pound bench press, and a 185-pound deadlift for a total of 455 pounds; Gracie Wiggs with a squat of 175 pounds, a 95-pound bench press, and a 215-pound deadlift for a total of 485 pounds; and Emmalee Williams with a 240-pound squat, 145-pound bench press, and a 275-pound deadlift for a total of 660 pounds. .

Lainey Rye was sixth with a squat of 245 pounds, 160-pound bench press, and a deadlift of 245 pounds for a total weight of 650 pounds.

Kenley Currie and Kimberly Watson were ninth in their weight divisions. Currie squatted 140 pounds, lifted 85 pounds on the bench press, and deadlifted 180 pounds for a total weight of 405 pounds. Watson had a 230-pound squat, a 135-pound bench press, and a deadlift of 255 pounds for a total of 620 pounds.

Alexis Leatherwood was 11th with a squat of 220 pounds, 115 pounds on the bench press, and a 270-pound deadlift for a total weight of 605 pounds.

“We look forward to what the rest of the season has to offer,” McIntosh said.

Burnet will compete at the Llano Invitational Thursday, Jan. 26.
